JB Bore Paste
I am not a rep for JB nor am I a paid consultant or anything like that . . . I just wanted to share my experience with this stuff.
I thought I had clean guns - in fact, I used to brag that you could eat out of the bore! Regular cleaning with Hoppes #9, Break-Free, Butchs Bore shine, TM solutions, foaming bore cleaner, (need I go on?) made me think that my guns were clean, but this year, my 7mm wouldn't shoot like it should (only 74 rounds thru it to date). I was used to 3 shot groups of 0.281" and 5 shot groups of 0.514". This year, it was more like 1&1/2" with 3 shots and even worse with 5 shots. I got the idea to hit it with some paste and I was floored with the amount of crud that came out of the bore. I went to the range after 3 rounds of paste and the accuracy came right back! I went and cleaned all my guns with it and now am depressed. I realized that my "clean" guns were actually filthy.
If you haven't tried it yet, give it a rip - you'll be amazed at the amount of gunk that is still in your bore, even after a good cleaning. This stuff will get just about anything out of the barrel.
The question for you who know more than me: Can it be used too much? Is 1 time a year a reasonable amount?
Thanks!

RE: JB Bore Paste
I use it regularly and like it for cleaning rifles. It's aggressive without being embedding abrasive. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/sto...ING%20COMPOUND

J-B bore paste is available at Brownells, Natchezss etc. It's great stuff I have been using about 15 years. Not only does it clean the barrel but it will help remove the rough edges along the lands of the rifling, minimizing places for copper and powder fouling to accumulate. Follow the directions on the can.

RE: JB Bore Paste
Clean the gun with a copper solvent and make sure it is clean. I'm not talking about looking down the barrel (put a flashlight in the open action) and saying "it looks good to me" clean. I mean pushing patch after patch of copper solvent cleaner through it until it comes out as clean as it went in.
If it was my gun and I bought it used, I would then push some JB bore paste (Brownell's)through it and make sure it was clean. This will also remove some of the copper catching burrs in the barrel that exist in just about every factoryinstalled gun barrel out there.
Take a bronze bore brush one or 2 sizes smaller than the bore of the gun you are cleaning.
Wrap it with a clean piece of cotton cloth.
mix the J-B paste in the can (it will sometimes settle) and rub a liberal amount on the cloth.
Run it through the bore for 20 in and 20 out strokes.
Now take a clean patch, soak with HOPPES or similar bore solvent and wipe dry with a couple more patches
Then do it one more time with a new patch on the brush with the J-B paste again.
Be careful not to drip all this crap in the action.
Wipe the gun clean again with hoppes and dry thoruoghly.
I will bet you will shoot the best group with the rifle you ever have.

RE: JB Bore Paste
i have been using jb bore bright for lapping, polishing and if you can believe it i have found a way to sharpen knifes with it. it seems to be a once a year kinda job but dang does the stuff work great, i used it on my muzzleloader and the thing loads with about half the pressure it used to take. i havent been able to get my hands on the cleaning version of it but im waiting till the shop gets it
