What's up with Hornady?
Last night I went to order some new 180 gr.SST's from midway and they are back ordered till the end of Jan. I start looking around and every other website is too. What's going on?

There's been a run on ammo in general lately. Hornady isn't the biggest company out there, and their brass is popular with reloaders, at least around here. It's probably put them in a bind to produce enough to keep up with demand without compromising their quality. Lots of retailers are running low on ammo of all makes right now. Ammo is still a good investment.

Ruger I have had 200 grain accubonds on order for 3 weeks with Cabelas and it is still on backorder. I stopped at Sportsmans warehouse for Large Rifle Primers and RL22 none were in inventory. The Reloder shelf only had 1 container of Reloder 10. No speer 30 cal bullets in stock. The manager at Sportsmans Warehouse says its factory backorders, Cabelas says factory backorder and a small local gunshop says he is moving more reloading inventory than ever before. It may just be demand is to high for production. Some of Obamas recent appointments may make demand increase even more IMHO.

I noticed our local Dicks Sporting Goods didn't have any rifle ammo or if they did I didn't see it. Not sure if they sold it all or moved it or what. The whole shelf had skeets and big boxes of shotgun shells now but I didn't see any rifle ammo unless they put it behind the counter. I just saw lots of shotgun shells and that was about it.
Our local Wal-Mart which I went to afterwards had a few boxes of .308 Winchester soft points and a few other kinds of ammo. A couple boxes of buckshot and a couple of .22's but there wasn't much else instock. They were sold out of most of the ammo like the 30-06 stuff and most of the popular rounds. They had a few boxes of handgun ammo left but it even looked pretty picked over.
I ordered some of the Winchester 9mm ammo that's exclusive to Bass Pro and the hollow points are on backorder. Seems like everywhere is just selling out of ammo. The gun shop I go to also raised their prices on the Fusion ammo I use from $22.99 a box to $29.99. They had to reorder some after I bought up their stock at $22.99 and told me it was backordered. They finally got some in but now it's $29.99. So people see, to be buying ammo like crazy.

Another angle also might be that Copper and other mtrls. Are in shorter supply.6 months ago prices were high. Reflecting demand. We saw the price of ammo jump as a result. Now in part to the economy. The result islower demand and lower prices. Mining companies have cut back production to increase pricing( see ammo prices and OPEC)and creating a lull in supply.Add that with theObama Jamma uncertainty and we have what we have.
We see the same in my business currently.

Well I went to my local gun shop today to see what they had and they said there has been a huge surge in people wanting to reload. I guess with ammo jumping and everyone freaking about Obama at the end of the year it may have pushed some over the edge and the demand for reloading components has surged.
