RE: Which Gun/Caliber Multiple choice
I own a Browning A-Bolt in a .280. Stainless with a 3-9 50MM Swft scope. I reload my own bullets and the options are never ending in the .284 calibers. You can shoot from 100gr to 175gr bullets without much fuss. Most people don't like the .280 since they don't have the zip a 7mm mag has. Well if you loaded a 7mm mag to push a 160gr at 3000 fps and a 280 to do the same your not using near the powder to achive it. I went to the 162gr Hornady SST's this year and pushing them around 2900 fps.Shot my west river doe at 20 yards only ruining a handfull of meat in a shoulder and I shot my buck at over 550 yards(on the second shot. he was a little farther than I thought). Same thing. Only ruined about 20% of the shoulder I hit him in. Not trying to pursuade you to much but I have zero complaints.

I would buy a Remington Model 700 chambered in 30-06. I read that Remington sells more 30-06's than any other caliber. 30-06 ammo is also easy to find & you can always find it at a reduced sale price, when sporting good stores have a ammo sale.
