RE: what do you think of the 25-06?
The 25-06 is an excellent round for pronghorn, whitetails, & mule deer. It shoots very flat with 100 gr bullets. I usually use 115-120 gr. for deer in oklahoma. However, lately I have been using a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Weatherby Magnum. This is the 25-06 on steroids. I have pretty much left all of the other guns in the safe since acquiring the 257. Shooting a 100 gr. TSX I'm 2" high at 100 yards & 1/2" high at 300. I'm only about 11" low at 400 yards. Ammo for the Weatherby is expensive if you don't reload. The 25-06 ammo is definitely cheaper and loads that don't fall into the premium category are available if you are on a budget. If you plan on owning 1 rifle and intend to hunt elk you might pass on the 25-06 but if deer is you game the 25-06 is great!
