Very good point,never thought of that since most of my hunting is in home state of ky where we VERY seldom have to worry about that.

Why don't you like the safety to lie directly under thumb without having to remove natural grip to manipulate safety on right side?
I have experienced a tang safety freezing in freezing rain.Even snow can be a problem with some designs.

Not enough to ever have it freeze in place like a tang safety.Unlike the 700 safety,the tang safety has very close tolerances that are exposed to the elements,and it takes very little freezing rain to freeze it in place.
