Store bought .30-30 loading? I prefer the 170 gr. Win. (white box).
Reloading could be interesting with Sierra's #2020. Its a 125 gr. hollow point designed for white tail deer at .30-30 velocities. Very soft up front, large cavity, but with a harder core for good penetration.

A good used Marlin with walnut stock should run $350 or less, take off $50 if it's the birch stock. I've seen used 336 model Marlins at gun shows for as much as $650, which is a rip off IMO.
