Default caldwell firecontrol rest

anybody use the caldwell firecontrol rests? looks really nice to use to sight in you rifle. i don't think it's like the lead sled that captures the stock. i looks like the gun still free to recoil like normal.

Actually a guy 3 benches over was using one at the range the other day. It looked pretty nice and I asked him how he likes it and said it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He had about 6k worth of rifle including a Nightforce scope on it and was shooting very small groups. I have the original Caldwell Rock and there is simply no comparison.

since you've seen it in action, was i right in assuming that the gun still free to recoil like normal, unlike the lead sled?

Yes the gun is free to recoil it is an ultra stable platform and that joy stick is neat and a great idea.
