Default 22-250 questions

Wondering if anybody else has heard of this? Some body told me that the 22-250 round is so hot that if you fire a lot of rounds in a short time you can warp barrels. Like in a prairie dog situation, has any body done this or heard of anybody ruining barrels.

I shoot prairie dogs all the time with a 22-250 and several other guns. Yes the barrel can get very hot and if you shoot it to the point of being too hot to touchit will quickly degrade the barrel to the point of uselessness. There are many chamberings that have the potential to ruin a barrel. Whether it 'warps the barrel or not it, I have no clue but itspeeds up the wear of the rifling.
My son and I used up the original barrel on his 22-250 (ruined makes it sound like we did it in one day) in two seasons of pds. Now we take more guns and switch often. You need to understand that shootin pds isn't like anything else. Think over abundance of reactive targets at varying distances that can be shot at will for lng periods of time....non-stop.
You can use the analogy of tires on your car, the harder you drive it, the more burn outs you do, the quicker you will be buying new tires. Barrels and tires are both common wear items.

Ah yes another wildcat horror storie lol.

Well a 240B machine in 308 will mess up a barrel shooting 800 rounds a minute.

I dunno if I shoot 60 rounds out of my 22-250 in a day I consider that to be alot of ammo. So I don't even know how a guy would shoot that much too ruin a barrel.

6o rounds a day is lot to me also around home hunting and target shooting, BUT when i go PD hunting, 60rds an hour is slow at times. I have a freind that has alredy taken the the barrel out on a AR15 just shooten "stuff" with a 30 rd clip and that low cost ammo in about 6mo.

60 rounds in a day would be considered a very slow day for prairie dogs. I went last weekend andshot 250 in a day and a half. In May a good day will burn up 350-400 rds.
