A good deal of gun writers feel the 7mm is an inherently accurate caliber. A quick look at the BC and SD of the 150 gr 7mm and the 168 gr .308 has them running pretty similar.
So on paper, it would appear as a toss up. I didn't look at the energy at the various ranges so I won't comment on that. But for extreme long range shooting I would probably opt for the 30 cal.

At 600 yards the most important factor is the shooter.If you have access to a 600 yard range and you are willing to spend considerable time,and ammunition to practice regularly to 600 yards from field positions,either will do.If not,neither will do.

That is a good question. I do not know why the 7mm Rem Mag is not used as often at the matches? You would think that the .284 caliber would out perform the .30 caliber even in a 160 grain compared to a 180 grain after about half that distance? In all categories including, wind drift, fps, and foot pounds of energy.

At that distance it is more the gunner than the gun. A finely tuned firearm whether it be a 7mm or 300 mag in the hands of a trained marksman will work equally well at 600 yards.

I'd choose the 7mm myself. They are both so close to each other its a toss up. I'd choose the 7mm for the less recoil, and I like to be different than the "other" long range guys that all shoot .308s or .338s.

Your better off with a heavier, slower bullet for long distance. I did some experimenting with the 120gr Barnes TSX out of my 7mm Rem Mag last fall, and found all my heavier ammo shot better, and performed bettter across the board.

Their accuracy will be dependent mostly on the nut behind the wheel provided both are built the same. Killing power I have yet to see a difference between a 7mm Mag and a 300 Win mag or wthby for that matter.
