Weatherby' s ammunition is to expensive, plus you won' t find it everywhere..You would be much better off with a 300 Win Mag or 7MM Rem Mag.That' s just my opinion.

A .300 Wby Mag is quite a bit of gun. Even for elk. If you don' t mind getting knocked into the next county every time you squeeze the trigger, go for it.

I think a .280 Rem or a .270 Win would better suit your needs.
LOL...

I agree with seattle. The big guns are fine if that' s what you really want, but the .280 or .270 will probably do all you' ll ever need.

Got a 300 Wby. mag, 270 & 7mm RM. I used the 300 wby. mag until I wrecked my shoulder playing hockey, now it is painful to shoot more than a couple of rounds. The 270 is a great caliber but lacks a bit for the bigger game, I have used it on moose and elk but limited both shot angles and distance. That isn' t always a good position to be in, especially elk hunting. The 7mm RM is now my choice, the recoil is tolerable, flat shooter, enough bullet size and styles to chase what I am going to hunt (Antelope to Moose). I agree if your looking 300 Wby, skip it and head right to 300RUM. However if recoil is at all a consideration I would suggest looking at a 7mm RM.

I would think that .30/06 is all you would need fro what you' ve stated, but if bears ever became a possibility maybe .300 Win Mag as the biggest. Of course there' s always getting something suitable for up to moose ( .30/06 , .270 ect.) and then adding the .300 Win Mag if and when big bears become an option.
I had a friend move to Alaska and bought a Savage 111f in .300 Win Mag in case he had the oportunity to hunt up there as well as self defense from a big brownie. When he moved back he sold it and told me the locals up there use .30/06 mostly and asked him questions like what are you going to hunt " elephants" . Having never been there myself that' s all I can tell you.
