Is the .308 Dead?
With all the hype over short mags and super mags and hot little hyper mags, is the old .308 workhorse dead? The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering buying a BLR in .308. Everything in print hypes everything else and just sort of ignores the .308. I must admit I haven't shot a .308 since the Canadian military went to the 5.56. But I do remember it as a very accurate round out of our old FNC1's. (Damm that was a nice rifle).........

308 is alive and well. Now that I say that, I wanted to buy one last year and one of the biggest gun dealers around my area didn't have a new bolt action 308 in stock......He said he sells 10 WSMs to standard cartridges these days..

they now make the .308 express or something, check it out......its .308 made for a lever action....
think hornady loads it.....think marlin/hornady developed it...
.308 still and will always have its place I believe, but comparing a .308 and a .300 WSM.....they're 2 different cartridges.

20 years from now we'll be looking at the short mags, ultra mags, and super short mags like we look at leisure suits now. The .308 might not be in style, but it will be around when the rest of them are obsolete.

RE: Is the .308 Dead?
Is the 308 Windead? Hardly, this mild mannered cartridge has been around a long time and continues to have success in miltary, LE and hunting uses. I dont see it going away for a long long time. Like others have said, in todays world it's a'"bigger faster" thing today and there seems no appeal for the mundane cartridhes such as the 308.
But that's ok, I'll throw the 44 grs of powder behind a 168 ish gr bullet and have fun.
Here's a 308 that's a pure joy to shoot and shoot it does.

No where near ...... It is actually one of the most prolific cartridges made. In fact, I recently bought another .308 to add to my collection. It is an incredible round. Good shooting.
