Look up "Palma matches" on the internet if you think the .308 is dead. Great round. Tough to beat in everything it is good at.

The 308 has the benefit of having some actions built around it. This makes it a great choice for a lightweight rifle withreasonable power. That alone will keep it around not to metions its reputation for accuracy.
