Best Scope under $150.00???
Greetings
I'm going up to Cabelas this week and pick up that .22 hornet. I'm not gonna go crazy for a scope at the present moment, but am gonna try to find something decent. Any suggestions???
I'm going to try to find something in the BARGAIN CAVE that retails for possibly up to $150.00. Going to try to actaully pay less than 100.00. Looked like they had some decent ones in the bargain cave last time I was there although I did not look that closely.
The only thing more expensive a may consider is that Burris FF 3-9/Etrex Gps combo. I've got an old etrex and it works Great but the screen is getting dull. I'd like to consider putting some ballistec plex on that hornet as well for some long range varmints (250 yds)
I may go the other way though and even get a decent straight power 4x, dunno yet. Hopefully, the gun itself will be worth shootin'.

This 3.5-10x50 is probably too big for your .22, but it is discounted over 50% in the Cabelas.com Bargain Cave (regular $310, on sale for $145):

IMO you are being very optimistic about 250 yard shots with the Hornet. I believe abnout 175 is maximum distance for effective kills, without crawl offs. But that is just my experience with my hornets.
If I were you I would look at a higher quality fixed power scope. 6X is more than enough for a hornet, and you can probably get better glass. If you are shooting varmints only then a straight 10X would not be too much either. Tom.

Thanks for the replies guys
Head,
You're probably right about the "long range yardage". I was just thinking about any reason to put a ballistic plex on it.
I was going to use it for shots under 150 yds (actually, primarily under100 yds) unless I happen to see a coyote then I may try to reach out a little farther...perhaps to little consequence, we'll see.

The Pro Staff is a LOT of scope for the money. I have several of them and love them... Check Ebay..the Pro Staffs can be had for a lot less than 149.

Yes it is. I have one on my turkey gun, and one on my muzzleloader. And I'm an optics freak who wouldn't think twice to drop $1,000 on a scope for a rifle. But no point in doing so for something you don't hardly ever use... and if it will stand up to the turkey gun... it will stand up to just about anything.
