Default So I was given a red dot

and i've never owned one for a shotgun, and have no idea how to sight it in. should i get bore sighted first to narrow it down?? does it sight in just like a rifle scope? its just with the shot, i can't imagine how i'd get a zero, without a single projectile. In my head, sure i can chase around the center of the pattern, but it doesnt seem that accurate. any help?

Just use some cheap bird shot with a full choke. Start about 15 yds away. This should keep your pattern pretty dense. Once you have it centered on that pattern, you will be really close to what ever ammo, choke combo you will be using. The truglo that I have has windage and elevation just like any scope, but the increments are usually 1 moa per click.

If your going to use it on your shot gun for slugs just sight it in like a regular scope. Start at 25 yards till you dial it in and move the target out until you reach your desired range.

its going to be used for both shot and slug, but my primary concern is for shot this turkey season. I guess i can just buy some cheap bird shot and just chase around the center of that circle.
