New addition
Well did the deed, having just moved my browning abolt SS Stalker 270win to a new home this week, I wasted little time throwing the money at a new additonfill the empty safe slot. Much to my suprise another LH Browning Abolt SS Stalker found its way home[&:]. However this time its chambered in a 338wm. Actually the gun isn't "new" but shows as if it were the owner bought it, decieded didn't like the recoil so on the block it did go. The deal included rifle which has seen just over a box of factory shells (18left in box number 2), leupold DD Med bases/rings, dies NIB, 100ct never firedbrass and 100 225gr AB's. The deal was unpassable in my mind, the gun felt great and if it shoots will be a well used tool. I am trying to deciede if i leave the leupold rings or go with a set of Talley LWs??? Scope will be Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40. I will most likely have the trigger spring replaced and add get rid of the factory pad. I figure it should be a good tool for elk and moose. EKM might even agree with me finally.
I'll most likely shoot off the 225gr ab's on paper but move to the Barnes TSX for hunting??? Though Have heard good things about either in the 338wm????
Now I just have to find some loads and time to shoot the new thumper[8D]

Congrats on the new toy. I just got a new toy also (will detail when I get it all mocked up). Just like Russ Potterfield says, "I really love this stuff". BTW, the Conquest is a great scope choice. What reticle did you select? Good luck.

RE: New addition
I am a lefty also . I always wanted a LH Stainless Stalker. I always liked the feel of the rifle, and the weight. It seemed like it would be a very fast handling rifle. So CONGRATULATIONS.
If you keep the Leupold rings I would make sure they are lapped. I like the Leupold system as long as they are lapped.
I think your scope choice is spot on. I have one of the Conquest scopes, the quality is great. I did just see a bunch of 3X9's on the SWFA Sample List for a good price. There is also a fellow at CAMERALAND that really has some great prices on some Conquest scopes.
Are you allowed to order a scope from the US?? If I remember correctly you are from Canada.
I think I would pass on those expensive Barnes bullet's. I can not see any advantage of a so called premium bullet in the larger caliber's. They may be necessary in sub 30 caliber's, but definitely not in a .338. But then I think we have argued about that before.Tom.

bugs, it'll either be myz-plex or my newest conquestwith therapid Z reticle. Not my first conquests though.
Tom, yes I can order scopes state side provided the retailer has an import/export lic. If not then no, Doug at cameralandny doesn'tshipscopes north of 49right now and SWFA have no plans too.As I mentioned above I already have the scopes just need to deciede which one goes to the 338.
Being left was one reason I couldn't pass up the deal, you don't see a lot of lhers in the 338 cals. Yesit does handle very well indeed and fits me exceptional. Like I said I was suprised!! Yes if I keep the leupold rings I will for sure lap them before mounting the scope. As to which bullet well that is for the rifle to deciede but as you mentioned we have discussed this in the past and Itend to beon the other side of the fence For me bullets are the cheapest portion of the hunt so I'm not one to skimp to save a few bucks. Time will tell but been thinking about it 225 - 250's seem like the place to be, so that's where I am going to focus my efforts to start.
Thanks for the comments

RE: New addition
I have loaded for 2-340 Wbys., and one 338 Win. Mag. All three rifles I loaded for preferred the 250's. The 250 Sierra shot great. I tried some of the lighter Barnes 200 grain X's, but I did not have a lot of success. I think a lot of it was the weight, but then it has been my experience that all Wbys.(at least the one's I have loaded for) prefer the heavy for caliber bullets.
There was a guy on the long range hunter forum who was advertising a NIB LH Remington LSS in 338 Ultra Mag. Good luck with that Browning. Tom.

Tom, yeah I have heard barnes tsx due to their length can causeperformance issues in the 338wm. My plan is to try what I have and then go from their. I aminterested to see the numbers on the soon to be released 338/250 NAB, though doubt very highly we'll see any this year in our neck of the woods( a next year project if the 225's fly well).
There area couple LH 338RUM LSS floating around here as well. The 338wm is comfortable for me to shoot off the bench the RUM would be over my comfort level with a bad shooting wing[&:]. In the field never felt the recoil of any gun but to be in the field it needs to shoot paper first.
