All-purpose Shotgun barrel length?
I'm looking to buy a new Mossberg 930 after looking at a few shotguns in this price range. I've looked at the SPR and the Stoeger 2000, but decided to spend my money on an American product. I have had a Mossberg 500 ISB rifled for quite a few years and has never failed me. I like the fact that there are alot of barrels and accessories availible and i like the fact that mossbergs come with a ported barrel(yes i know they bark a bit louder).
At any rate I don't know what size of a barrel to buy.
I want to use it for skeet/sporting clays, turkey, upland birds(grouse and partride) and occasional goose and duck hunting. I'll probably sell my scoped 500 and buy a rifled ISB barrel for it for deer hunting.
What size would you reccomend for the all purpose version? 26" 28" ? I would think 24" would be to short.

I prefer a 26" barrel, for the simple reason that I've been shooting a 26" barrel most of my life. I'm used to it. There is no advantage to one or the other for overall/general purposes. As jeep wrote its all up to you.

For small and upland game I say 26", for the ducks and goose at least 28". The longer barrel will give better reach and keep tighter patterns at a distance.

In an over/under I think I like 26", though I think typically 12ga o/u are 26" and 20ga o/u are 28"
12ga o/u- 26"
20ga o/u- 28"
In a semi auto/pump, ie single barrel shotgun, and lets say 12ga, I'd say 26 or 28" and I think my pick would be 28"
