Default .243-06

Anyone hear of this wildcat? I know Jarret has a .243 I think based on this case maybe. Surprised its not out there. Think the .240 wby is kinda like this too.

Anyone rather have this than a .25-06? or over a .243 win, or 6mm Rem?

Research the 243 Gibbs..which is nothing more then a really blown out 30-06 case necked to 243. I shot one in a Ruger number 1 and it had some velocity. For all intents and purposes not anymore then a 240 weatherby which is one sweet round.

most call it a 6mm-06. Or make a 6mm-06AI. It is only a little slower the the weatherby and gibbs.

Based on case capacity, a 6mm/'06 woud be essentially the same as the .240 Weatherby Magnum or the 6mm/284. Thee have been such things! I have the 6mm/284, and it is a super cartridge, except for one slight problem. Such rounds are all over bore capacity, and eat barrels! I limit my shooting of mine for that reason. It is still very accurate though....

The MV of this load is 3440 FPS. This rifle will deliver 3700 FPS with the Sierrra 85-grain HPBT using Norma MRP1 powder.

I have a 6mm-06 wildcat. Shoots real good. Gun probably has the capibilities of eldeguello's 6mm/284, but I don't think I do. It is a rem 721 action, 28" montana barrel, boyds jrs stock, leupold rings and bases, and a burris FFII 4.5-14x44 scope. The dies are Redding custom. The thing that impresses me is how it will shoot to nearly the same point of impact of 0-260 yds with everything from 65 gr to 105 gr bullets. Mine like IMR4831 the best.

I read on jarret's website that expect about 1500rounds of good accuracy, I think it would take me quite a while to shoot 1500 rounds, esp if I limited its use to mostly hunting, prehunt sighting in etc...

I wonder, 6mm-06, 6mm/284, .240 wby, 6mm Rem, .243 AI? .243 Win? I guess the .240 is the most performance thats factory available, then of course you're spending who knows howmuch more on ammo than a .243 .....ammo prices dont really matter to me, esp on the bigger stuff when theyre almost alle xpensive but when you can be paying 10 bucks box vs 40bucks, i mean its a .243 not a .338RUM you know?

Of the ones you listed, I'd choose the 6mm Remington. It has a better design than the .243 Win., and will generally beat the .243 by around 100 FPS with the various bullet weights.

The 6mm/284 is an accurate round, probably due to the short, fat powder column. But in some rifles, a magazine rail alteration is required to get the 284 case to feed well. In addition, the 284 cases are VERY strong! I would personally avoid BELTED cases..... the .240 Weatherby case would be better if it didn't have one!

I have the 240Wby., if i was doing it over again today, i'd pick the 25-06...

It's more cartridge for less money, and bbls last longer. To me everything about it is better...

If you are not married to the 6mm .I would go with the .25 or maybe a 6.5 brass depends on your need for speed.BTW I have a Sako in 25-06 .I would not trade it for a little gold monkey.
