Model 1873 Winnie
My uncle has a Model 1873 Winchester LA in .38/40. I have looked around and have not had very much success in finding info about this rifle. My grandfather gave it to my uncle about 30 years ago and my grandfathers grandfather gave it to him sometime ago. Unfortunately my grandfather has passed adn we cant get any info from him. The serial is 352xxxB. I have put this into some website and it came back as a bad serial. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Model 1873 Winnie
"2002 Standard Catalog of Firearms" places seriel # 352xxx at the year 1889. 363220 started the year 1890. The .38-40 was first offered in 1879. In 1884 they started using steel receivers on the model 1873. Winchester stopped production in 1919. Model 1873s with a colored receiver bring a premium price. Prices are listed for Rifle, Carbine, and Musket. Rifle: excellent 9500, very good 5000, good 2000, fair 800, poor 400. Carbine: excellent 12000, vg 6500, g 3500, f 1200, p 800. Musket: e 3500 vg 1500 g 1000 f 750 p 300. I don't know what the "B" stands for in the seriel #. Barnes and Nobles carries the book. The book costs $34. Great buy for that much info. Sounds like you have a great heirloom. Just ask if you need help determining the condition and I'll post their criteria.
