300 WSM or 270 WSM
I am looking at buying a new gun and i have been looking at the 300 WSM and the 270 WSM. By the looks at the ballistic charts they look to shoot pretty much the same. Is there any difference in kick or what are the advantages of either one? Some of my buddies say i should be buying a 7MM. I still like my old 30.06 ,but nowi am not sure what to do.
Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

Compare balistic charts for your self. The 270 will kick less. (you may not be able to tell the difference on your shoulder until you have shot 20 rds. or more) I would say if you already have a 30-06 and would like another cartridge go with the 270wsm. All depends on the game you are after. The 270 wsm is pretty awesome IMHO.

Just curious... What do you want to do, or what do you think you'll be able to do, with one of the WSM's that you can't already do with the .30-06? Or, is this simply a case of "I wanna have it"? (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

RE: 300 WSM or 270 WSM
I have a 300WSM. Love it. It was a had to have type thing for me. Remington discontinuedthe rifle (700LSS) that I wanted, so I had to go ahead and get it before they were gone. I was shooting 150gr ballistic tips, at 300yds they were notconsistant (could hit a paper plate, just not as consistant as I would like to shoot deer). I stepped up to a 180gr and things got better, but with a price. The gun started kicking twice as bad, and I started flinching. So, I had a brake installed, barrel floated, and action bedded. Now its a tack driver. I am very comfortable shooting at 300 now, but I havent had the opportunity to practice further shots. I took a shot at a crow around 550 on the last day of the season but missed. I primarily hunt a powerline andcan shoot as far as I feel comfortable. How far are you wanting to shootthis thing?

I have the Remington model 700xcr in 270wsm and my son has the Winchester model 70 stainless synthic stock in the 300wsm. The 270wsm will have less recoil. I bought my 270wsmfor deer, antelope, caribou and elk. My son bought his through a hunting buddy of mine because of a good price. I shot both and still perfer the 270wsm over the 300wsm but that is me. I had shoulder surgery a couple years ago and the 270wsm is very accurateand apleasure to shoot. So far I had the chance to take three mulie deer does at 300yds. and 6" dia. rocks at 500yds. So my suggestion is to find somebody that has both and see for yourself.

Throw the charts out the window. I have never seen a chart kill a deer, or anything else for that matter. Go with the 30 caliber. The 30 caliber is far more versatile. More bullet choices, and greater resale value. Tom.

Larger then deer 300wsm. If not then take your pick.
If buying factory ammo do some looking in your area to see what the stock is for each. While the 270wsm is popular the 300wsmis more so and selection here at least still favors the 300wsm.
