Yeah, it was around 10 degrees out this morning and snowing, snow had let up when we took the picture. Called in another tonite to 125 yards, shot and he dropped (seen the hit high behind the shoulder). So I was gathering up my gear and looked up to see him streaking away. Shot one more time and missed. I followed the blood trail almost a 1/2 mile and lost it in a stock dam/cattail slough. Will go back in the daylight hours tomorrow and see if I can find him.

Hmmmmmmm. Damned strange. You would think something high up there would trash the spine if he was a broadside shot. If head on, maybe it richocheted off the shoulder bone and just left nasty wound. Hope you find him and solve the mystery. How much was he bleeding?

You got me ready to hit the track with you now.

You might want to take a look at the Savage 16 Weather warrior or if you want a heavier barrel, their varmint rig.

Yeah I thought for sure that shot was deadly. Still haven't gone looking for him yet, had a late nite at the bar last nite....hahaha.....There isn't a ton of blood, but its not hard to follow his trail.

I have a Savage special run 243 right now that I'm shooting, and I'm not impressed one bit with the stock on it. Never felt anything that loose/flimsy in my life. I don't like buying rifles that are flimsy, once Savage fixes that problem I will be buying more of their rifles. This rifle is getting a new stock from Stockade.

I am not a big proponent of Savage rifles but their special varmint rifle has a lot of possibilites and it comes with 2 different twist rates. I know a guy that went the custom build way for a 224 TTH when this would have been as good or close anyway. I think it would be a pretty good deal in 22-250
