Default Will this gun kill a rabbit on a head shot

Hey, im new to the forum and really hunting in general. Some info about me - Im mainly a bow hunter and shoot a recurve but im starting to get into guns as well. Ive gotten 2 rabbits this year with my bow and am really looking forward to deer when im 16. Now onto my question, I am too young to buy and own a gun so im looking at a pellet gun for rabbits. This gun is at my local canadian tire and I can just afford it with my christmas money. Here is the link....

That should do the job fine. No need for a definite head shot (the skull can actually be a problem for penetration), about anywhere on a rabbit in the front half of the body will bring it down or at least give you an easy finishing shot. At least that's my experience with pellet rifles and bb guns. At 500 fps, you should be set out to 30yds or so. Rabbits are easy to bring down You might try Gamo's new pellets that are supposed to give up to 25% more velocity and deeper penetration if you want more power.

Thanks, also another question. Canadian tire lists all their air guns as 495 fps while other websites list the same gun as 600 fps. Is it actualy 600 fps or do they reduce its power?

Heart shot or head shot will kill a rabbit very quickly and easily with a pellet gun. I agree with the above poster about ~30 yards being good for pellet guns. Its about 27 yards from my patio to the edge of the woods behind my house and I've killed dozens of rabbits with a bow, pellet gun, and .22 loaded with CB caps.

The link did not work for me so I could not see the gun. Any air rifle with a listed velocity of 1000 fps or better is what you should be looking for. Gamo makes PBA Raptor ammo that is fantastic. It is a ballistic alloy that increases the velocity of any gun as it is lighter than lead. I have shot things that have died faster with that ammo and at greater distancesthan with any other. What ever gun you do get, look into getting that ammo for hunting.

The gun is a crosman spring master 795 with 495 FPS. Id love to have one of those gamos but they are way too expensive and illegal to have here. I was thinking just one of those pointy pellets for huting.

One of the reasons it is posted at a speed of 495 is that if it is over500 fps - it qualifies as a firearm and is illegal by Canadian Laws. It is simply a way to circumvent the Registration system. I don't know of any police force that would actually test the guns actual velocity.

I should correct that last statement - it is not that it is "illegal" but over 500 fps it must be registered - sorry for the error.
