RE: What's your favorite deer gun?
For many years I have had great confidence in a Win. feather weight .243 (1955 vintage). This year I bought a used Rem. mod 78 Sportsman in 30/06 and carried it all this season. I was able to kill a 200+ lb. eleven point buck from 240 yards with the '06. I'm not as conifident the .243 would be able to plant such a deer so solidly as the '06 did. My thinking is changing as I get older. 243's and such are too light, 30/30-35 rem.etc. limit range, 7mm & 30 mags overkill and they kick too much, something in between like 270, 30/06, maybe a .308 is just about right.

Deepnavel,
I agree on all points except 243. I never liked them and don't see that I ever will. But my favorite is a featherweight one of these in 308 handloaded of course:

It was said earlier but I couldn't agree more; depends on the hunt.
I love my lever m94 30-30 iron sights on drives.
I take my bolt Tikka .308 w/2x7 Bushnell if I'm still hunting or sitting.

Sounds like a "loaded" question.Depends on what year it is. Lately it's been a Rem 700 ADL/FS in 7 Rem Mag.I have taken more deer with my 300 Win Mag over the years than anything else.Took quite a few with a 270 Weatherby Vanguard a few years ago too.
