Number 1,you're not going to get 3100 from a .280. Number 2,with 140 gr,it has enough to get inside before it comes apart. Number 3,a rib bone won't be big enough to cause massive failure with a 140 gr bullet.

I had a buddy who bought a box of these when they first became popular. in 300 win mag, he hit a good buck with no exit wound at 100yds. thats pathetic, he chunked them in the trash, but i am glad they worked for some guys. I wouldnt use anything but winchester powerpoint anyway.

I've been using them for 20 years. I have taken at least 200deer and half a dozen bear with them. Someone said "They just plain work". No truer words have ever been uttered.
Thosewho say, NO..... All I can say is, GOOD. More for me to shoot and kill with!!!!!!!
As always, the 10% intelligence rule applies. IMO the vast majority of bullet failures, is actually the failure of the shooter/hunter. Shoot placement people, shot placement. It also helps to have a little understanding of thedesign and characteristics of the bullet you are shooting.

I have used the 150-grain BT's and the 168-grain BST's in 30-06 on serveral Wisconsin whitetails. At ranges of 75 - 125 yards, they performed similar to a soft point bullet for me. The only bang-flop I have gotten was on a quartering away shot, but I have had that happen with other bullets as well. Most of the deer ran a short distance. I did not see any bullet blowups at 30-06 velocities.
Overall, I favored the 168-grain bullet, but both worked.

the fact of the matter is a original ballistic tip is nothing more then a hp with a point stuck in it.mainly so they will cycle thru actions easyier. there are other bullets on the market with the same type plastic tips that perform better.
personally i don't think you can beat a hornady or seirra spbt.
