870 questions
My dad wants a 870 for Christmas....which is great!!!! I would love to get it for him. He wants to do some deer hunting with it along with bird hunting. Anyhow, when deer hunting, what is the average distance that you can shoot with an 870. Also will I need to get an additional barrel for slugs or will he be ok with the regular barrel?

RE: 870 questions
Last fall I purchased a Remington 870 combo from Gander Mountain. Package included a 28” smooth bore barrel and a 23” rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. I mounted a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x 32mm shotgun scope on the slug barrel. I have been extremely happy with the whole package included scope. Slug barrel is very accurate. See attached photo of the slug set up. I shot this doe at approx. 100 yards right through the heart with Hornady SST's.Personally I would not be comfortable shooting a slug more than 120 yards.
