12 ga is fine, but for me i like my 410 for small game and if i can get some slugs maybe deer (at close range) but yes a 12 will work go with a larger pellet so that you wont have as much meat hit with pellets, like 6 should be good with a mod choke.

welli guest i was way off i measured them my winchester rifled slugs are 23/8 buton the shell it say 2 3/4 ozmy
federal 71/2s 1 1/8oz its also says 3dram it measures 2 1/4long
my pmc shells i bought fore turkey say pmc with a 6circled beside the pmcthen they say copperplated
2oz and it says there 3inch
why do the slugs say 2 3/4 but measure 2 3/8th
also i take it the 71/2 are smaller then the 6s and the mossberg 500 i am buying says 3inchchamber is it ok t shoot the 7 1/2s that are only 2 1/4

I believe 2 3/4 is what they measure when they hulls are open. If you have a 2 3/4 inch chamber gun you can put a 3 inch shell in it and fire it. The problem is when it opens it will open into the barrel and the hull will get stuck.
You don't actually measure the length the shell. For 12 ga the standard is 2 3/4 and 3 inch, and they have a magnum chamber that shoots 3 1/2 inch shells.
Mod and full are regarding choke sizes. The three most common are I/C (improved cylinder), Mod (modified cylinder) and Full. The I/C being the most open choke of the three and the Full being the tightest constriction. As the chokes get tighter they will throw a smaller diameter more dense pattern of shot, but it makes it harder to hit the animal and will do more damage at closer distances. Turkey chokes are Extra full and Super full.
For almost all small game shooting you will use an I/C or modified choke. If your shots will be close and fast use the I/C chokes, if they will be farther out and more precise use a Modified. For really far away squirrels you could use a Full I guess, but I would pattern your gun to see how it shoots with that choke and shot at what distance.
