Making an 870 better?
I have an 870 Express Magnum 12 ga. that I would like to improve.
One thing I don't like is the safety; mine works rather hard and I have a hard time finding the buttom with gloves on. My solution is a Wilson Combat Jumbo Head Safety:

I'm not sure what to do about my other issue; the slide sticking. I can hold the release and give the gun a one-handed "jerk" up, and the action opens. However, once all the way open it doesn't slide forward freely. It actually requires a decent amount of effort to close the action. The gun needs to be cleaned, but I don't think dirt and grime is causing this.
Is this a common trait of 870s or just mine? I would like to get rid of this sticking so the pump/slide moves freely in both directions. I will look closer at the gun this week but wanted to get this posted just in case this is a common issue.
Are there other other gunsmithing type mods to this gun that I'm not aware of to make it perform better? I have already done the following:
- sling attachments
- cantilever rifled slug barrel
- may do a custom Limbsaver recoil pad
- fiber optic sights on bird barrel
Thanks!
