Also, I was a range coach/PMI on Stone Bay, Camp Lejeune NC for three years and after teaching female and male Marines I have to agree, females have the upper hand at shooting
They certainly do, if only for the reason that they generally have a lot less to 'unlearn' before they can be taught proper fundamentals and have a better attention span and attitude than males.

My brother has a Ruger M77 international with a 18.5 inch barrel chambered for the .250 Savage. We have had many
first time shooters, man and women, use this gun. It is very low recoil and has enough power to take deer out to 150
yards cleanly. I think any rifle in a caliber such as the .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, .243, and the .260 would be a good choice.
Most importantly is that the gun fits her and she is tought good technique from the start. With good technique she could
learn to handle that .300 of yours.

Many calibers will do fine for her as long as the stock fits her well. Stock fit and shooting technique are a huge part of the story to what someone can withstand in terms or the recoil generated by a particular cartridge.

Personally I like the Browning .243 A-bolt Rifles, they shoot very accurate and have a low recoil,I use 100 grain Hornady shells, and a Leupold Rifleman 3X9X40mm scopeand have harvested several nice size Deer over the past 3 years! If your Wife is small and Petite you could probably get a gun in the Youth Model with the shorter stock.Another good Rifle would be a Savage .243 with the Accu-trigger.

get her either a .243 win. or a .260 rem. even the 25/06 isnt to bad for a first time shooter.

You know how when your wife picks out a wedding present and gets towels or sheets or "something they both can use". Well when my son got married I told my wife I would take care of their present. "They" got a Browning A-Bolt composite stalker. When my wife pitched a b***h, I said "hey, It's a .243, something they both can use."

I agree with a .22 LR to plink and target shoot with (ammo is dirt cheap). You didn't specify what type of hunting so maybe an AR-15 for varmints. If you're thinking about deer hunting, my wife's favorite rifle to shoot is an M-14. You can pick up .308's in bolt or semi-auto and they have plenty of power for deer hunting with fairly low recoil.

My wife is pretty recoil sensitive, so I won't be getting her anything too large. I'm debating between a .243 Win, .25-06, .260 Rem or 7mm-08 Rem. I think maybe the 7mm-08 may be above her comfort zone, and .260 Rem is semi-rare and ammo is more expensive. So it'll probably be a 25-06 or .243.
All good choices, IMO. But you say the 7-08 is possibly too much, so you'll maybe go with a 25-06. Won't a 25-06 kick more than a 7-08?
