RE: browning blr vs. remington 7600
I have used both and would give the edge to the BLR due to the fact that the safety on the BLR allows you to chamber and then place the hammer a halfcock. Makes an awsome bush gun I am also buying a 308 as I have the BLR in 300win and 325wsm. Nothing wrong with the Rem 7600 I personally would choose the BLR due to safety factor.

All of my new rifles are Brownings.
All of my used rifles are Remington 760 Gamemasters.
I still own one Model 6 Remington.
The 7600's are cheap pieces of crap that do not have the accuracy that the 760 had. The wood stocks are not all that nice - like the old RKW High Gloss finish on the Gamemasters.
Anyone that thinks that they need a synthetic stock for a rifle - probably doesn't know what they are talking about.
Anyone that wants a military style rifle - doesn't want a hunting rifle.
The Brownings are a nice gun, good fit and finish with very accurate barrels and actions. I have seen 1 bad BLR that was machined poorly and could not be repaired. The ammo quite literaly blew up inside of the chamber.
If you wanted a clip fed rifle then a Browning is NOT the rifle for you.
I own a Browning Pump Rifle in .300 Winchester Magnum and it uses the same clip as the BAR - Browning Automatic Rifle. $60 each!
The clips for a Remington sells at Wal Mart for about $15!
You can buy a 10 shot clip for the Remington for about $40!
Which one is better? That is up to you.
I would buy a used Gamemaster or a new Browning - Period!

None of my rifles are brownings, and probably never will be(unless free or a gift).
I have only seen1 rifle completely all-to-pieces blown up,it was a BLR and it was a failure of the BLR bolt locking mechanism.
Remington has made so many pumps there will be good and bad, but overall for over the counter accuracy in that price range it would be my second choice to a bolt action.
You get a synthetic stock a lot cheaper as a rule than wood. The wood of this price range is not hand picked walnunt. We have replaced several Rem broken wood stocks over years. If you hunt all weather buy synthetic, if you want to look at it get some shiney wood, greasy looking high gloss wood. If you want the shineyest greasyest looking wood of all go Browning.
For your money Rem with a scope that costs as much as the gun, but kidding aside, buy the gun that fits you best. I do think the locking mechanism of the Rem is stronger, but that both guns are of quality.

Two great rifle's. Very Very tough choice. I say buy them both and hunt every other day. If you want wood I would go with the Browning. If you want a great utility rifle that can take a beating then go with the pump.
Iwould not say neither one is more accurate than the other. Accuracy will depend on the individual rifle and load.
I shoot a 200 grain Sierra Game King bullet in my 30-06 pump carbine(18-1/2) barrel. The rifle will keep three shots in an inch at 100 yards. I prefer the carbine, short and fast handling. Tom.
