I also fogot to mention I found on back of the safety it has mark II stamped on it

mt boy,

From what I can tell (hard to see the small photos) but it looks to be a custom rifle built on a Mauser action. That was pretty common back in the day and still is today as the Mauser action is one of the strongest and most reliable ever built. The "mark II" you refer to is an aftermarket safetyand Fajen is an aftermarket stock manufacturer which even more solidifies my thought that this is a custom made rifle from a Mauser action.

Have a gunsmith look it over to check it out.Then shoot it with pride as it's a great family hand down that you can pass on to your kids as well.

I think you are probaly right.I found some pictures of a m98 mauser action and they look very close except for the saftey.Then I found the safety on another site. It is a markII made buy dayton trsistor.Is there any way to find out what the barrel is. I really appreciate every ones help

It's hard to tell from that small of pictures, but I would guess a mauser action was used to make a custom rifle.

[/]Yeah I know like i said Iam not to good when it comes to these things.If you go to the posts where they should be and scroll to the right you can see them but for some reason they came out really small.If its all right I can email them to you.You can see them alot better on there.

That definately looks like an old Mauser action your Grandpa had rechambered to .243. It was probably an 8mm Mauser at one time. Although it resembles the Mauser 98 action/receiver and it may be without actually seeing it I think it may even be an earlier version of the Mauser action. Looking at the bolt, it looks like it is a controlled feed?
