.270 win or .270WSM ?
Hi guys !
Mi current rifle battery consists of 22 LR .223 rem. 25-06 rem. 30-06 .338 win magand 9.3x62. The thing is that all of them are let’s say “Classic rifles” that is wooden stock, open sights and blued barrel. Now I won’t to buy my first synthetic stock “light weight” stainless steel rifle and I have decided to purchase a Tikka T3 light stainless steel.
Now the question is ….what caliber ? I have narrowed it down to .270 win or 270 WSM. So what should I pick ? Is the 270 WSM going to kick to much in a light Tikka T3 ? It weighs less than 6.5 lbs. I’ve heard that the Tikka in .270 WSM is really accurate …….!
Thanks,

You've already got a .25-06 and a .30-06. So, I'd say the .270 Win. would be a bit redundant, unless you're just wanting to fill out the family of '06 based cartridges.
I'm not a big fan of magnums because I'm a little bit recoil sensitive, and you're right, in a 6.5 pound rifle, I'd imagine it'll kick a bit. If it was me, I'd get that Tikka in 7mm-08.

RE: .270 win or .270WSM ?
I agree with ipsc that a 7mm08 would be an excellent choice in a such light weight gun, but I have a Sauer 202LW in 270 on the way that will weigh about the same as the Tikka. So I really can't cast any stones.
To answer you original question, I am a huge fan of the WSM's, but I am a bigger fan of the plain old 270. I already have a couple of 270's and am adding another as I have already mentioned.

I had the 270 WSM in the Tikka T3 light. It did not kick as bad as I thought it would. Plus you get much better ballistics out of the WSM with a shorter action..

i would say regular 270. mag ammo are much, much more expensive from what i have saw and it is less available. i would hate to be at hunting camp in no mans land and be able to find wsm at the only store in town, but i gauruntee they got regular 270s. i got a savage model 110, its a nice gun

Having had both, the only difference I could see was the added recoil of the WSM. The little gain in ballistics isn't worth the extra recoil. There will be noticeably more recoil in a light rifle on 270 WSM. I got rid of the WSM.

I have a Sako 75 in the .270 WSM,this thing is a tack-driver with handloads and the recoil is nothing...
