Other guns firing 7.62X39 then aks and sks
I did I tread earlier where said something about the 7.62X39 and someone just else has said it also, well I have read and SEEN other guns other then the aks and sks. I have read where rem. or ruger was coming out with bolt action, I have seen, picked and held a single shot breech chambered in the 7.62X39 .
Has anyone else seen Rifle chamber in the 7.62X39

I bought a Rossi single in 7.62X39 earlier this year. I figured it would be a good first deer gun for my son when he is big enough. I like startng them off on single shots. I can't really tell you how it shot, because I used some Wolf ammo that was the worst I ever used.

Does Ruger still make the Mini-30?

Ruger Mini-30, CZ, and I believe a couple others in the past that I can't think of right off the top of my head have been chambered in 7.62x39 Soviet. The Mini-30(and 14), unless Ruger's made some drastic changes, are broad-side-of-a-barn accurate unless you want to put a bunch of money into them (which is like putting a $2500 set of Dubs on a $1000 POS '95 Chevy Cavalier, IMO). The CZ I don't know much about. I've seen CZ bolt guns and handled them at the gunshop, but I've not been impressed with their outward appearance and workmanship. They look cheap, but I've heard they shoot well. The biggest limitation to the CZ would be the 7.62x39 Soviet ammo available. The cheap stuff just stinks. And the better ammo (from Remington, Winchester, Federal, etc...) costs about the same as a box of .243 Win or 7mm-08, or even .30-30, all of which outperform the 7.62x39 in every measurable way.
The real question is why do you want a rifle other than an SKS/AK clone in that caliber? If you're only interested in cheap plinking, I'd just go buy an SKS, maybe even stick a cheap scope on it, buy the cheapest $2/box junk ammo (ie Wolf) and go blast away.
However, if you have an interest in using the rifle to hunt with, deer, predators or varmints, etc..., then I'd consider something else, because, IMO, the 7.62x39 was designed for one thing and it had nothing to do with hunting animals of the 4-legged variety. If you're very recoil sensitive, then you could look at the .243 Win for deer and smaller. If you want a moderate all-around cartridge, I'd consider the 7mm-08 or the .25-06. All of there are reasonably powered (contrary to the current trend, you don't need a .300 Rem Ultra Mag to kill a 200lb deer, even at 300 yards. They aren't made of steel and Kevlar!), there are a huge variety of rifles chambered for them so finding a rifle you like won't be a problem, the ammo is reasonably priced and available anywhere ammo is sold (which is not true for the better 7.62x39 Soviet ammo).
Good luck,
Mike

In addition to CZ (model 527), Charles Daly was importing the mini-Mausers (from Yugoslavia)in that caliber as well as .223. I believe Remington is now the importer for those, and I think they are still selling the 7.62X39. In addition, there are some Ruger 77's in that caliber, but I don't know about the No. 1. At any rate, this is a good cartidge when fired in an accurate rifle, and when the loads are tailored specifically for a particular rifle..... My CZ w/18" barrel will fire 150-grain pointed bullets at 2300 FPS, and that will equal a .30/30......

Reload and save money with the 7.62x39mm.CZ's are great for accuracy and The Mark X Yugoslvian mausers are nice too! A kid can handle the recoil and they are around 30-30 in power.I load 24gr of Win 748 behind a 123gr slug so it's very efficient. The Soviet ammo is crap.{WOLF}etc.......Harold
