If all my shots were going to be under 100 yards, I'd be getting it in .308. Ammo costs 1/3 as much, and at that range, a .308 will do everything a .270 or .300 WSM will do, and will do it just as well with less noise/recoil.

If all your shots are 100 yards or less, zeroit at 100 yards.

I will be getting it in 308. I have lots of ammo for 308's. The 270 is just to solve this year's deer hunt.

With 140 grain bullets and zeroed at 100 yards where is it zeroed again? 225? 1-2" high at 160-170? Thanks

I think you are bringing a pistol to a knife fightLOL - the 270 wsm isa really fine cartridge and will perform well out to 400 + yards with the bullet you have selected. At 200 yards it is more than adequate.[&:]

Therifle, by all accounts should be dependable, accurate, andtough. Let me know how it holds up.The old winchester autos did pretty well, but didn't shoot particularly good groups. And their trigger was just awful.

i like winchesters, i do think its kinda ugly but like you said it is just for hunting you dont care how it looks, i saw a review on tv bout it, and everything was fine, it was accurate, the only thing i saw bout it that was bad was a ad from winchester that there was a recall on the clips, that were being sold, but that was quite awhile ago. have fun shooting it.

ORIGINAL: ZR 900

I bought one in a 270 WSM. Is this caliber any good? What does it compare to. I know the 300 WSM compares favorably with the 300 Win Mag but haven't done any research on the 270 WSM. I bought it for a quick solution to N MN whitetails as I sold my Browning 308 BLR. Thanks
The 270 WSM is in between a regular 270 Win. and the 270 Weatherby. A good cartridge. I would probably have opted for the BAR, since it has a rep for good accuracy, AND it has been on the market long enough that we know it will not disappear any time soon... Win. has a history of discontinuing their rifles, especially semi-autos!

I don't know how accurate or reliable it will be. These haven't been on the market long enough for any experience factor to build up. But they HAVE to be better than the Remington SA's!

Okay. I found a 308 Short Trac Browning, bought it and killed two nice bucks with it. My buddy missed three in a row with his Remington 700 in 270. We tracked it to a Phillipines made Simmons Aetec Scope. He bought the Winchester from me last week while we were at a pit lining up his new Monarch. He took one look and bought it. He just killed a very nice 9 point this afternoon. The Winchester hit the deer exactly right but it jammed. He had loaded a shell in the chamber and inserted the clip with three shells in it. Maybe this is a bad thing to do? The clip will only hold three and the gun is advertised as a three shot.
