RE: Yet Another For Your Viewing Pleasure
The cool thing about USGI Colt Pistolsis they stopped making them in 1945 (I think) and it was not uncommon to find original 1911's (before the 1911A1's) in WWII and even Korea. My father remembers seeing original 1911's while he was in Korea.
That's what I love about these old guns, you can use your imagination about what they have seen in their service life. For all I know this pistol could have (probably did) seen service in the trenches of WWI, the Beach's at Normandy or the desert inNorth Africa. Perhapsthe Yalo river in Korea or even the Tet offensive in Viet Nam.
These pistols were repaired as needed and put back into service until they were replaced with the Beretta. Some made it through in all original condition, others (most) were re-arsenals and sold as surplus but all rich with American history.
Yes...if it could only talk what a story it would tell.
Thanks again for looking.

Thats pretty cool. A lot of history there. I know a guy who has a Walter P38 with the original bullets that was taken off ofa Nazi Officer. Still in shooting condition. Pretty cool... wish I had picks.

I can post pics of a Nazi P38 if you like, I think I know where one is.

If that pistol hit normandy, the guy carrying it must have either been high ranking, a coward, or just took VERY good care of it. That thing is immaculate.... very nice specimen.
What is neat about this kind of thing is getting around somebody who knows a whole lot about these things and just listening to about how they were made, where they made them, what all the proof marks and intials stand for. Some of the folks I have met at gun shows could look at a gun like that, or heck in some cases even just an assorted part and tell you when it was made, who made it, where they made it, what the balance in their bank account was and if their wife was blonde, brunette or redhead.
