RE: Tricked out stainless Marlin Guide Gun. (PICS)
Tom: It's a factory wooden stock. I prepped the wood, and coated it with Duplicolor brand bedliner type finish. It's indistinguishable from a synthetic, and tough as a tank. The finish is textured, but not excessively rough. It's more of a soft texture.
Before refinishing the stock, I tested a piece of scrap wood. After it dried, I couldn't scrape it off with a screwdriver. It's probably the toughest and nicest looking finish that I have found for armoring a gunstock.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Brian

RE: Tricked out stainless Marlin Guide Gun. (PICS)
Duplicolor black spray bedliner. Available at Walmart automotive section. Be sure and carefully prep the wood before applying. 80 grit to remove the clear coat. Use a stainless wire brush in the checkering, NOT the sandpaper.
Spray 8 coats, 10 minutes apart, with the nozzle 6 inches from the wood. The last two coats should be sprayed from about 12 inches away, to get a consistent texture. Just remember, this stuff dries fast, and the only way you will ever get it off is with a grinder. It's tough and VERY PERMANENT!
I would highly suggest that you experiment with a piece of scrap lumber before you apply to a gunstock. Yes, it works extremely well on properly prepped fiberglass stocks. I have no idea if it will adhere properly to a plastic stock.
