Default Rem 280 BDL

Just bought a Rem,in 280 cal.was in a hurry to try it out ,loaded 8 rounds with the 139 SST bored sighted it and went to the range.Shot once at 25 yds just under the bull, next shot at 100 yds, touching the left hand side of the bull, next 5 made just one big hole.Whew!
Think I lucked out and got a shooter right out of the box.
Waiting for some better weather to try 2 and 300 yds.

was using 57 gr of imr 4350 and sst 139.I want to try the imr 4831 but haven't found what the max load of it and the 139 gr bullet is
It dosen't list the imr 4831 in my hornady book.If any body has it pass it on to me, so I can try it.
I don't think it will be any better than the group I shot but want to
chrony both and see the difference.
I really couldn't believe it shot that good,it has only had 8 rounds through it 3 to zero at 100 and the next 5 i could cover with a quarter.I wished I had of saved the target to put on here but didn't.

Herman, that's not unusual for a Remington 700 to shoot right out of the box....and the SST is a mighty fine bullet.

Personally, I've been frustrated by IMR powders.....the product is good but their data is short and they don't seem to want to reply to me. I've moved to Hodgdon's for most all of my powder needs and I'd suggest that if you tried 58.5 grains of H-4831-SC with that 139 gr. SST, you'd shoot about 2,900'/sec and groups would not diminish at all. Further the SC (short cut) is loaded the same as the regular H-4831 and is a lot easier to handle than any of the 4831 regular powders. Visit the data at http://www.hodgdon.com

Please don't confuse the H-4831 with the IMR-4831, they're not the same powders and not to be used interchangeably

Yes I really like the Remington's,I have a gun safe full of them from a 243 to 30/06.And some rugers, and T/C,but this is the first one I
have had that shots like that right out of the box.
I have allready loaded some with H4831 from 58 to 59.5 grs to try also, but haven't had a chance to try yet.I want to try RL-22 and 19 also.
Since the sst's came out I have switched to them in all my hunting rifles really like them and have taken deer with all of them, except for the 243,I had a dealer to order a box of them back in the summer but haven't gotten them yet.I now shoot them in my 260,7/08,30/06 and now the 280,all shoot less than an inch at 100 yds.
After and before deer season starts again I usually shoot once a week, allways tweeking this and that never satisfied.Sure is a lot of fun though.I don't care for the magums but the sst shoud be a very good bullet for them too.

I get execelent accuracy with 139gr Hornady BTSP,50.0gr of IMR 4350 and Remington 9 1/2 primers.
As for the IMR 4831 starting and max. load for the 139gr bullet 44.4gr and 56.0gr according to one of my manuals. I have some SST's loaded up and want to try them as soon as some snow melts...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks for the max for the Imr 4831.What gun are you shooting the 50 grs of 4350 in? I am shooting the Rem,BDL SS with a 24 in barrel. The hornady manual gives 3000 fps with 57 grs of Imr 4350 in a 22 in barrel so I am guessing that I should be getting around 3100 in the 24 in barrel.I will check it when it gets better weather to shoot in.
I think you will like the SST,I have taken 3 with the 150 gr in 30/06 and 2 with the 165 gr.and one with the 139gr in 7/08,from 50 to 180 yds,all but one was shot behind the shouldercomplete pass throughs, the one was shot at 75yds in the shoulder (left) exited behind the right shoulder still a complete pass through.I haven't had one that the bullet stayed inside to see how it mushroomed.
