Lefever 12 ga
I have been offered a trade for a side by side 12 ga made in 1907 by the Lefever Arms Company of Syracuse NY. I don't know much about this gun. The owner claims it has damascus twist, but I didn't think anyone was still using that method of barrel production in the 1900's. Is there a smith out there who can tell me if this gun should be ok for 2 3/4 inch modern shells?. I suspect it would be no good for waterfowl hunting unless Non-Toxic shot was used and I prefer steel for it's price so water fowling won't really be an intended use, but I might use it for fun trap shoots. Can anyone tell me theoretically what loads would be ok to shoot. I will have it checked by a smith if I decide to go for the trade just want to know what I might use it for. Also any idea what it might be worth. He wants a ruger single action 357 that I have, but I kind of suspect I might be getting the better part of the deal if I can find a use for it. Thanks everyone and happy holidays to all.
