30-378; Converting Ruger No. 1 or Remington 40x or other single shot
I'd be grateful for info on anyone who has converted a Ruger No. 1 to the 30-378 or heard of Remington 40X being built for this caliber. I'm owner of a Ruger No. 1 in Win. 338 but would like to convert to the 30-378 so as to have match to my bolt action Weatherby 30-378. Prefer to have matching single shot backup gun in same caliber. Alternatively, if anyone knows of Remington's custom gun shop doing the 30-378, in single shot, would love to know of it.
(Yes, I know of the coments of this being too big a gun, having no use, etc but I've already got it so might as well make the best and use it, LOL0
Very grateful for info on this. Thanks to all and Happy Hunting/shooting

RE: 30-378; Converting Ruger No. 1 or Remington 40x or other single shot
I have never converted a Ruger #1 to a caliber with this large of a bolt face; but I have done several Remingtons. It is quite a bit of work - almost not worth it. The bolt face needs to be opened up to where there is a marginal amount of material left to enclose the cartridge head. The only extractor that I could get to work was an M-16, with some modification. The ejection port needs to be enlarged to eject a loaded round. The bolt stop needs to modified to allow a longer stroke. Ejector needs to be altered to have more forward travel. And, if you weren't going for a single shot, there is a whole nest of worms with the magazine box and action rails.
