Too bad they had no pocket guns.
I was just reading the thread comparing .25 and .32 and bigger for pocket guns. In Canada they are "prohibited weapons" You CANbuy a .44 mag. with a 4inch+ barrel but a pocket .25 or .32 is "too dangerous"you can only own if you had one before the law took effect.
If someone in Virginia Tech had been carrying a pocket "equilizer" they may have stopped the fellow at least a little earlier. I wonder if the parents of the dead students think about that or do they just get caught up in calls for more restrictive gun laws.

RE: Too bad they had no pocket guns.
i agree, this incident calls for less gun laws. I believe that if students (some of which had permits to carry) where able to carry on campus maybe more would have been alive today. Its the campus' rules they can not carry there. so this law may have taken more lives. What a tragedy.

criminals prefer unarmed victims.
society is becoming to believe that guns=crime
theres alot of people that oppose guns...they dont realize that armed civillians can help fight criminals.
i love watching the shows about robberys and stuff. the robber goes in and holds up a cashier...civillians stand around with their thumbs in their butt crying..pleaaaaaase mister dont shoot!! not me. in less than a year ill have my CC permit. if i see fellow civillians in need i'll be there.
but you wouldnt see me on the news...about how the average joe used his CCW to stop an act of crime.
and i already know id never be able to carry on campus. not even allowed weapons in MY dorm room. i personally dont see why i cant keep a pistol in my room and carry concealed on campus. by the time the campus police are done writting their 15$ parking ticket the criminal could have the whole dorm shot up.
atleast my campus police ARE armed. i know of some campuses with unarmed police!

I hear ya mauser.
I went to a community college who didn't have armed campus police and while I was there one of my friends got robbed on campus at gun point and my truck got shot 5 times while it was parked at the dorm parking lot and yet another time I saw some thug looking dudes passing around a pistol in the dorm parking lot. Should I mention that guns were banned from being brought onto campus?
Real secure, huh?

How about a pocket knife?
I carry a Spiderco Delica in my front pocket wherever I go.
At arms reach or even within a few steps, Knife>gun for a deadly weapon. From the way things sound, many of the students were 'executed' at short range. A person with a knife and even mimimal training with it, or better yet training in disarming, could have cut the guy to pieces.
It would be neat if students around the country started training Krav Maga and carrying a K-bar in their bookbags, but I'm not getting my hopes up about it.

I have a pocket gun. I'm going back to school. And I know it's not illegal to carry there, only against school regulations. I think the risk of expulsion is superior to the risk of murder. Enough said.

RE: Too bad they had no pocket guns.
Actually I agree Briman, when I get my CCW permit after the 4 month waiting period I am going to begin carrying something along the lines of a Ka-Bar wherever I can't carry my gun. Until then it's my Schrade locking folder with a 3 1/2 inch blade that stays razor sharp that stays clipped inside my back pocket.
I've actually gotten so spooked by a guy walking behind me one night here that I did pull it out, unfolded it, and had the blade slid into my sleeve with my hand in a jacket pocket. If anything happened he would've at least been hurt good as all I would've had to do was stretch my arm a little and go to work.

You are all exactly right. Would ths guy have been so quick to do something like this had any of his intended victims been possibly armed? Every liberal will cry for more gun laws but the fact is that this guy was sick and would have harmed people any way he could whether it be a gun, knife, car, whatever. All the antis are going to exploit this tragedy and allready are. They'll say whatever they can to take away our rights. I saw one newspaper article claiming that Glocks fire semi-autoand BURST!! The uneducated will read it and fall right into the liberal trap.

RE: Too bad they had no pocket guns.
I heard someone on CNN make that comment on Monday afternoon.
Jist was that weapons were prohibited on almost all public school campuses in VA (my home state). In fact, my father is on the advisory committee for the school of Natural Resources at VT, its where he got his Master's, and despite all this, my little sister is starting there in the fall. It hits pretty close to home.
Anyway, jist of the report was how many lives would/could have been spared if someone was armed and could of stopped him? I was suprised to hear this coming from a CNN reporter.
I don't think we will see much happen in the wake of this with regards to gun laws. This guy was totally clean, bought the guns legally. Passed the background checks (and VA has a pretty tough requirement, VA residents can only purchase guns in VA due to our more comprehensive background check system). The Brady Campaign gave us a C-, just because we don't make people wait one way or the other, and also because we allow assault weapons and concealed carry.
Long and short of it is, this guy was a few rounds short of a full magazine. This could of happened anywhere, Harvard, Stanford, or your local community college. And he could have made a bomb, or used a chainsaw almost as easily as he did a gun.
No matter how you slice it, its a tradgedy. However, far more people died April 16th in traffic accidents than at the end of a gun in Blacksburg. If the anti-gun community was really about stopping needless death, they would be lobbying congress to outlaw recreational driving.
