Perhaps ridiculous questions but who knows.
Your opinion on Marlin 1894 in .44 mag for boar?
I have a friend who swears by it and I really like the rifle from what I've read.
Also, I really like the 1895G (.45 70) but I am not going to be hunting anything big anytime soon. I can not afford 2 rifles right now and like the 1895G. I am only going to be hunting boar and perhaps deer.
Should I be slapped? probably

I love the Marlin 94 in 44 mag. Very accurate and shoots plenty flat out to 125 yards or so. Delivers a good punch as well. I like the 250 Grain Nosler Partition that Winchester loads.

Get teh 45-70. You never know when you might need a big gun on deer or hogs or a surprise trip for larger game. Im thining about getting a 450 Marlin but im not sure what its gonna do besides look god in my collection.

I have shot boar with a 44mag, and worked perfectly. Out of a Rifle you should be getting at least 1600fps with a 240gr bullet so should be even better.
But if I was you, I would get a 45-70. That way you have little extra power for other situations.

Just to throw something else in,have you seen the puma model 92 in .454 casull? Almost twice the energy of a.44 mag(out of my handguns anyway) while retaining light weight and excellent carrying qualitys.

RE: Perhaps ridiculous questions but who knows.
You will get a heavier rifle along with the 45/70 and also more recoil, the 450 Marlin is even worse... Another thing, most folks who are use to higher velocity cartridges aren't too impressed with the 45/70 unless it's handloaded up... Then the recoil level really goes up!!
For "you" and what "your going to do", get the 44 mag.. and use the 250 grain Nosler load already mentioned!!! Just keep your shots to around 125 yards or less...

Of the two, the .45/70 is of course best, but heavier and hence slower handling in a hurry! And I'd use a bullet at least as tough as the Speer 350-grainer in the .45/70. Here again, a tough cast bullet will work well. (Tough, NOT HARD! You want them to penetrate, not shatter! Wheelweights heat-treated to Brinell 18-20 are pretty tough and tend to hold together! Some alloys, such as linotype, tend to shatter on impact due to too much hardness).
