flashlight for shotgun
dad gave me a mossberg 590 for my bday...id like a flashlight on it since its my bed side master blaster..a flashlight sounds like a practical idea.
ive found mounts i like that will mount to the mag tube and hold the flashlight. now to pick a flashlight. i want an adjustable beam from spot to flood and anywhere inbetween...and i want to turn night into day...when i hit it i want my room to be lite up clearly. i dont wanna go broke on a 400$ flashlight lol. (i see surefire makes some close to that price!) but i dont want total CRAP. any recomendations? what lumen or candle power rating to look for etc??
is the mount and pressure switch a good way to go?? seems practical and like it should all work well...but the curly cord worries me kinda..but i guess theres no real way around that...
surprised i cant find a mount that goes onto the bayonet lug...i thought for sure id find one for that...
any info at all? what would you guys do?? thanx

RE: flashlight for shotgun
THE best answer is...SUREFIRE
It replaces the forend, is clean with no cords or snag points, can be had in several brightnesses (the lowest of which is 65 lumens), and takes the lithium 123 batts which have great shelf life capabilities. I think I've seen them for $250or so.

SHOTGUN FOREND WEAPONLIGHTS
SureFire makes replacement forends with integral tactical lights to fit many popular shotgun models. These forends come with a pressure sensitive activation pad for momentary light use, and a constant On/Off switch ("F" models only). A P60 lamp assembly is standard, providing 65 lumens of light for one hour. The P61 ultra-high output lamp assembly can also be installed, boosting output to 120 lumens for 20 minutes of runtime. Constant-on and momentary switch standard, optional system disable switch also available. The optional system disable switch is a useful feature for covert operations or to eliminate accidental light activation during storage.
SureFire shotgun replacement forends feature a shock-isolated bezel/lamp assembly and a machined barrier between the lamp and battery stick to prevent the battery stick from slamming into the rear of the lamp during recoil. Batteries within the battery stick are separated by a fiber washer and held within a plastic sleeve as further insurance against recoil-related failure.
I don't like the cords either, but if you go with a plain flashlight with a tailcap that incorporates a remote pressure pad momentary switch, the Nitrolon G seriesis a good choice, and so is the Insight M3 if you put it on a rail mount. http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-rem-870-tactical-mount-69906.html

Tacstar is one place to get light mounts that clamp to the mag tube.
