RE: semi-auto shotgun
Is there a benefit with going with the longer barrel? This is a smooth bore 28", I will eventually get a fully rifled barrel for deer. The guy at the store said shorter is better for deer and turkey. I'm new to shotgun shooting so I really don't know.

i think the guy at the gun shop isn't giving you good advice, goldie.for deer the barrels are shorter(deer slayer barrels)with iron sights in smooth bore or rifled.turkey on the other hand you want a longer barrel,30 inch full choke.the 28 inch modified choke smooth bore barrel is usauly the standerd barrel with a remington shot gun.the 28 inch mod. is a good all around barrel to get with the gun.you can add specialty barrels later.or you could get the 28 with the screw in choke system, this elimanates the need for many different bird shot barrels.you may still have to invest in a deer barrel.

actaully patterning tests and stuff have proven that barrel length does not really play a significant role other than personal preference....if ur just gopnna turkey hunt get the 23" turkey barrel that they make for the 11-87 its less weight to carry around and compact to swing if the bird comes in behin dyour..for deer get a rifled slub barrel....but if ur gonna use the hun for everything get a 26" one w/ rem choke and a separate deer barrel
