Who owns a Savage model 12 Varmint rifle or has shot one.
I want to buy my first center fire rifle. I won’t get the chance to hunt as often as many of you so I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on it. I have decided on a synthetic stock with a free floating barrel. I’m leaning towards the Savage model 12 series in 243 caliber. Most of my hunting will be geared towards coyote’s so I believe the 243 should be a decent choice.
For those of you that own the model 12 varmint rifle or have shot one what do you think of them?. Am I on the right track or should I consider a different model.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

i have a lefthanded mod 12 in 22-250. ive had it for 3 years now . mine came with the synthetic stock,it shot great but the forearm on the stock flimsy with the heavy barrel . i bought a richards microfit laminated stock for it . i'm shooting 50grn v-max bullets and getting grps at 1/2-3/4in.
are you going to deer hunt with it? if so why do you want a mod 12 with a heavy barrel. i'd go with the weather warrior savage or you may want to look at the tikka t3 ss lite . i just bought on in 270 win at 6 3/8 lbs its really nice.

Have a savage 10 FP in 223 that will drive tacks and just got a model 12 in 22/250,haven't had it long enough to work out the right load but it shoots pretty good too.
The model 12 is a little heavy for a carry rifle so I got a rem sps in 22/250 for that and it shoots great also.
The 243 would be good for deer and varmits.

Excellent choices, both weapon and cartridge. the 243 is extremely versatile. Just remember to put a good scope, rings, and mounts on it. I see a lot of good weapons with cheap scopes and see through rings. You know why I see them? Because they won't shoot. Swap out the junk rings and mounts for some Leupold or burris and it fixes half of them. By something other than a Tasco or Simmons scope and the rifle suddenly shoots good. Go Figure! If you're on a budget I would suggest buying a Nikon ProStaff Scope. It is around $120 and you get a good quality scope for your money. Hope this helps.

Anybody need one of these. It is for a 12FVSS. RH action. LH Thumbhole. Richard's considers this there exhibition grade wood. I think is is short of exhibition, but it would sure be nice with an oil finish. The dark mark on thecheekpiece is where I raised the grain with adamp cloth. Tom.

I have a savage 12 FVSS in 223 thats a tack driver. Not really imprressed with the stock but it will serve the purpose for hunting very well... HEAD0001 if that were a right handed stock it would be sold, not a lefty.

I use the model 12 in 308 for long range groundhog. Hopefully, for deer someday, too. It is a tackdriver with 168 gr. ballistic tip CT's. I would think you would be happy with one. Most would consider it for stationary hunting only, because of its weight.
