The .450 caliber has a few larger bullets available, 400 and 405 gr. but, when loaded with the same weight bullet weight, the velocities produced are very similar between the two.

I already have a 30/30 but refuse to shoot it due to it being a winchester.
I hope it isn't because your "saveing it"?? If it's one of the zillions of"run of the mill" Winchesters, you won't live long enough for it to increase in value enough to NOT be worthhunting with it!

Either caliber would make an excellent choice. My choice would be 45-70, but my reasons are purely nostalgiac(spell check). I have not shot a 450 Marlin, but everything I have seen and read make it a top notch performer. I would go with the 450 Marlin, because I reload. I believe there would be more bullets available.
