Default Tracker II - Slug Gun

I have a New England tracker 2 slug gun in 12ga. I wanted to have a scope installed, but cannot find anyone to drill and tap the barrell for me.
I now want to have a peep sight put on. Can someone reccomend a gunsmith that will do this for me. Okay! I know that I can buy one with a scope mount, but I didn't want to lug around a heavy cannon. Mine weighs only five pounds. That is why I bought it. One shot-One deer.

Thank's

Default RE: Tracker II - Slug Gun

I was interested in the Tracker also. Nice, inexpensive gun & accurate. Something nice to bring hunting as a great back up - ya know a "just in case" deal.

There is not enough metal to safely drill and tap the barrel. You might want to see if a smith would braze a scope rail on it. A low profile rail might even allow you to still use the iron sights. I can't find the guys business card but call down to Buffalo Rock Range in Ottawa and ask them for the name of the gunsmith. One of their guys works at the smiths I believe and he has given me a couple business cards,I just can't find them. I'll bet he'll steer you in the right direction.

Where are you at in Illinois?

I've shot the Tracker a bit and the mags tell your shoulder excatly what they are and what the gun only weighs. Wow.

You might also be able to find some sort of "piggyback" scope mount where it clamps on the barrel and clamps on the scope tube. It mount the scope pretty far forward, I think they call it "scout-style".

As for the "heavy cannon" - I absolutely love my 12 gauge H&R USH Deluxe.

Default RE: Tracker II - Slug Gun

I would look into getting the 20 ga heavy barrel for it, it will come with a scope mount and add some weight to reduce recoil a bit.

I have heard of others getting tracker II's drilled for a scope rail. Some smiths will do it, some will not. I am suprised H&R will do it, if they do that would be the ticket depending on price. Have them do a triger job while they have it.

I don't understand why they told you that, because I called about a year ago and was told no. The heavy barrells wont fit. Different reciever they told me.

The 20 ga heavy barrel should fit, but the 12 ga won't, it has to go on the 10 ga reciever. You would need a new fore arm for the heavy 20 though.

You don't "need" a trigger job, but the stock triggers are so-so in my opinion. I have heard that they do a really great trigger job from the factory for a very decent price. If you had a gun in there getting work done you might as well improve the trigger as well I figured.
