I think Spartan is the Remington off brand. It's a russian gun. I don't know much other than that. I did read a review about a budget double made by spartan. It got a decent review. But as Chrysler tought us in the 90s; sometime reviews are for higher. Other than that o/u review I know nothing. The 835 is a great gun though.

thanks for all your help i knew as much as you did about the spartan and i had heard that the 835 really threw you around so that is why i wanted the 935 for the semi-auto to take some recoil out of it and i like semi-auto

I shoot the 835 and I don't think the kick is all that bad with 3 1/2" shells. I hunt turkey with it and never really had any complaints even when patterning new shells for it. The top of the barrel is ported. I think they just started doing that within the last 5 years or so. Maybe that's the difference. All I know is it kills turkey,pheasant,rabbit,and clay birds as well.
