After Market Open Sight Options?
Can anyone recommend an after market open sight system? Would like to use open sights on one of my rifles and was wondering what upgraded options were available? Noticed the XS Ghost Ring Sights in theCabelas catalog... Anything else out there thatyou would recommend?
Appreciate any advise...

If we knew what brand/make/model/caliber of rifle you are talking about we could help you more. That said, consider a reciever peep sight.
go to www.brownells.com or www.midwayusa.com and browse
I'm sure you will find sights that will fit your need.

Thanks for the advice...
The rifle I'm considering to put open sights on is a Remington 760 Gamemaster, Pump - .308. Not 100% on the decision yet. I've hunted Maine the past two seasons. Lot of walking and jump shoot style opportunities. Just not comfortable acquiring the target through the scope and think I'd be better off with open sights.
Again, thanks for the websites and recommendations.

I honestly believe you will be more effiecent with a LOW power scope mounted as low and close as possible to barrel. A very low power scope will have a HUGE field of view, not conceal any of the game animal, and actually be faster getting on target than any form of iron sights.
Do yourself a favor and at least THINK about a 2x or 1.5x-4.5x scope. If you choose a variable,ALWAYS keep it turned down all the way in woods.
Too many people either "overscope" or fail to keep scope at lower power.

if you go open sights, fiber optic(or tritium maybe?) would be best. TruGlo offers several options, but they are the only name I can think of off the top of my head.
I would have to agree with stalkingbear and say go with a low power scope. I used a fixed 2x scope on my M4 when I was in the service, and target aquisition time was VERY quick, but thanks to the 2x magnification, had a perfect sight picture. I would suggest that if you went with a scope, using a forward mount with it, similar to Ruger's Forntier Rifle. This allows you for quick targeting with both eyes open, then shutyour non-shooting eye and you have magnified sight picture. Takes a bit of practice, but well worth the investment.

Personally, I prefer a micrtometer-adjustable aperture rear sight like the Williams Foolproof and a Redfiled "Sourdough" front blade for iron sights, rather than any open rear. This is faster, and more accurate as well. I would include the ghost-ring type rear here, but it lacks the adjustment latitude of a micrometer type. But once it is zeroed, it is fast and accurate.
I suggest you look at the Williams Gunsight Co. catalog, and also take a look at the open sights made by New England Custom Guns (theirs are expensive, but the best of all made in the USA....)
