Has anyone swapped a Savage barrel?
In other words, has any one of you guys (or girls) done one of those Adams & Bennet packages where you buy the barrel, the wrench, the vise, and the go-no-go-gauges for the barrel swap project that Midway marketed a few years back.
If so I'm wondering how it went. Reason is I'm considering changing out one of my 30-06 Savage rifles that sports a barrel w/o sights for a 30-06 barrel WITH sights.
And while I'm on the topic, anybody have one of the Savage 35 Whelen Adams & Bennett barrels for sale?

RE: Has anyone swapped a Savage barrel?
I have no experience with the barrels in question.
I have swapped barrels on the Savage using the wrench and gages.
I don't know exactly what you want to know but it is worth the effort.
How did it go???
Boy o Boy did my groups shrink.
10 shots1 raggedhole at100yrds.
Ican get these consistently shootingfrom the top of an old car using coveralls as "sandbags".

RE: Has anyone swapped a Savage barrel?
I was interested mostly in how the job of the swap goes. As far as accuracy I'm only looking for passable accuracy, which to me is 1.5 - 2.5 " groups at 100 yards with just a bench and a duffle bag. That, to me, is more than adequate for hunting purposes.
I don't think I own any guns that don't already shoot better than I can hold.

I've swapped a few. I am not sure how you would get a barrel with the sights already installed to line up correctly. You screw the barrel on until the gauges tell you to stop. It will be different from rifle to rifle.

OOOPS (duh)
Well, I got a good deal on the barrel and my buddy has a wrench.....I'll just need to obtain the gauges. I guess chances are the sights are NOT going to line up........so maybe all I've obtained is a decent chamber and bore w/o the proper use of sights....
The barrel was only $30.00 and is in very good condidtion.

a very solid rest it is.
I bore sight 99.9% of all my rifles from a car roof usingcoveralls.
Your rifle will "sit" right there pretty as you please.
do you shoot your "deer"rifle 100 times a week?
do you live at a place you can shoot anytime you feel like it?
have you lived at places such as this your whole life?
do you let your barrel cool between shots?
did your grandaddy pay you in bullets to kill turtles and crow?
did your parents let you start hunting by yourself with a 30-06 when you was 10.
didyou have20 years of professionaltraining with a long range rifle on top of all those?
one ragged holes are not hard to obtain if you can answer yes to but a few of those.
I do have the occasional "pull" but rarely am off by more than a 1/4"@100yrds.
IfI had a way to record myself and put online I would.
100 yrds is from the deck to the second oak tree.
Or from the top of the old car to the far side of the first pond.
I shoot tennis balls at night with a .22LR at that distancedo you want to disbelieve that to???
If you walk 50 yards behind the shop and turn right, you will see a 450yrd range.
This is the only place I use my bench.
