Marlin 336 Help

RE: Marlin 336 Help
I too got a 336W this season, in Nov. I took the scope & rings from my muzzleloader - weaver rings & Bushnell 1.75x4-32mm Trophy - and mounted on the Marlin after buying a 1-piece base. It is a good setup, and kills the deer. If I were starting from scratch.... I'd get either a fixed 4x, or a 2-7.

Leupold Standard Mount. Good luck.
Leupold Standard Mount. Good luck.
But whatever you choose, stay with steel.
A note on the 336W. they have a "walnut finished"birch stock and is prone to swelling.
when the stock swells it swells on the hammer and will not fire.
If this happens within reasonable time after purchase Marlin will replace with Black Walnut at no charge to you, but you have to specify Walnut and that you bought a Marlin for dependability not failure.

First thing,PLEASE do yourself a favor and DON'T get "ironsighter" scope mounts. They sound good on paper but in reality put the scope too high for you to see thru it making it impossible for a good cheek weld. At the same time, only a small tunnel to see open sights with.
Second thing,DO NOT listen to the guys who talk about a bushnell sportsman scope over a leupold. Yes,there are other scope options, but remember-you get what you pay for! Any of the better lines of major scope makers will perform good.
Also, don't fall into the trap of overscoping.AKA too much magnification

I looked at all of your responses, and I noticed Burris scopes were a popular answer. I looked into the Burris line and settled on a Fullfield II in a 2-7x35. As far as mounts go, I was looking into the two piece talley mounts, but I have not made a decision as of yet. Im also going to look into the leupold standard mounts as well. Once again, thank you to everyone who helped me out on this one.

I was originallylooking into a 3-9 X40 scope, but I started to feel like that was just too much glass for my 30-30. I figure the effective range of this cartridge does not need a 9 power option. Im only using it at the range right now, until I begin to learn more about this gun and caliber, becaiseI am fairly new to it.Im looking forward to this next fall....

Try to find a Burris scope on a friends rifle to look through before you buy one. I have owned several, and my eyes don't like them. I am not sure if it is a paralax adjustment problem or just my eyes. I have had several instances of "now you see it now you don't" while hunting. The scope just blacks out for some reason unknown to me. There are alot of people that do like Burris optics, but I would suggest looking through one before spending any money. I have not had the "paralax" problem with Leupold, Zeiss, or Trijicon which is all that I own now. Just my 2 cents.
