I hope you are joking about the performance of the 35 Whelen !

I've had experience with that same, rifle/caliber combo before, I haven't been to impressed with the .35 Whelen, its slow, and big, and not all that powerful. The gun you speak of, however, would make a good gun to carry in the woods.

Dang ,the 358 Bullet is a wonderful bullet ,I have a 35 Rem. in a 336 Marlin which is a wonderful combo, and with handloads I can easily push 200gr. RN bullets , to 2200fps.. and with low pressure ..andI have yet to have a Whitetail out run that... and the 35 Whelen is alot more gun than the 35 Rem.
I've been putting off building a 35 Rem custom on a Yugo action, just for the heck of it...

RE: 35 Whelen
The 338 Win Mag is a fine round for Brown bears and some use it for Elk,
My self I would rather have a 9.3X62 which is almost a ballistic twin to a 35 Whelen AI... And son, its not how fast a bullet goes butits how it functions at a given velocity.....Thats why deem big ole slow bullets penetrate like no tomorrow....and PENETRATION is the first step to a clean kill..not speed...
And unless you are planning to shoot a Bull elk at 300 yd.'s would be served well with a 35 Whelen or a 9.3X62 or a 358 Win. or a 350 Rem. mag...
or dare say a 30-06 or a handloaded 8X57 or a 308 Winny...375 win.,356 win 444 Marlin or the new 308 Marlin or a 45/70 within 200 yd.s ...but a fellow may have to hunt and be skilled to get closer than 300yd.s
They will get the job done

RE: 35 Whelen
I agree, Buckeye, I'm not saying the .35 Whelen is a "bad" cartridge, I'm just saying that I don't like it, there is nothing wrong with it, just another classic in the -06 case family. I'm glad that we don't have to argue anymore.
