Default .270 max. range

I have a Savage .270win and was just wandering on what the max range is with this caliber to make a clean kill. I will hunt mainly deer with this gun. Any thoughts?

Technically, you could make a clean kill at 800 yards, but, practically, 250-300 yards and under is a good distance for the .270.

Look at the ballistics charts. The point at which the bullet falls to the 2,000 fps impact velocity is effectively the maximum range.

Yeah, there are a lot of variables here. Bullet size, barrel length, your skill level. I know for myself a 300 yard shot is about the furthest that I would dare to take a shot with my .270. Now with the right setup and a lot of practice I could see a 600 yard shot being within the .270's range. The .270 is a very flat shooting rifle and is a great choice for long range shooting.

Maximum range is determined by the shooter, not the cartridge being used...

When I was a kid my grandad used to pay me bricks of .22lr to kill turtles and crows on his farm, and was his place eat up with both. After a while the turtles got smarter so I had to sit a little farther off and at different spots each day, I got to where I could shoot the head of a turtle at 100 yards and dropped countless crows around 200 yards with the .22 lr which in most peoples eyes is well outside of the 22lr range.

No, TUK, you need a super duper whiz bang magnum, to make those kinda shots.

Do you know of a website that compares different bullets that I can check out?
Thanks guys. In the past I shot a Rem 7mmmag and this is my first year with this gun and I love it so far, shoots great andvery accutate.I have took 2 does so far at about 50 yards and neither took one step after the shot.I am about to move back to KS and where I hunt there I will have alot of open range and my shots will be much further. I will practice my butt off during the off season and won't take anything past what I feel comfortable, but want to make sure the bullet hasn't slowed down enough to where it can't make a clean kill. I appreciate the help.

What kinda shots are you looking at? In terms of yardage.

Not quite sure, I haven't been on this land for a few years. Some of it I can have wide open shots at 600+ ,others be 50 yards and anywhere in between. Thanks,
Brandon

Oh crap, I see why you are asking now, there should be some websites that will tell you the ballistics of a particular factory's load, out to 1000 yards.
